Garen Wintemute, the director of the Violence Prevention Research Program at University of California, Davis, and champion of the Center for Violence Prevention Research Big Idea said that it will take more than universal background checks and extreme risk protection orders to prevent future mass shootings. Wintemute told Business Insider he believes it isn't about one policy taking precedence over the other; rather, it is all of these policies working together in tandem that could have maximum impact on preventing future mass shootings.
