UC Davis Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph Hexter announced John Marx, professor and chair of the department of English and 2018-2019 ACE Fellow, will serve as Faculty Adviser to the Provost — Academic Planning, Aggie Square.

John Marx“I was thrilled with the high level of interest from the faculty in this position and this vital academic planning process,” Provost Hexter said. “I am confident John will make a valuable contribution to UC Davis’ academic mission and to Aggie Square’s success.”

Marx was one of several members of the faculty from both the Davis and Sacramento campuses who responded to Provost Hexter’s call for expressions of interest in October.

“I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to our growing urban campus in Sacramento,” Marx said. “During an American Council on Education fellowship last year, my work focused on the role that universities can play as institutional anchors for their neighborhoods. I look forward to bringing what I've learned to the collaborative effort of launching new research and teaching programs at Aggie Square.”

Marx’s responsibilities include building and growing the inventory of potential academic programs that may benefit from a presence in Aggie Square. He will serve as Aggie Square’s faculty liaison and work closely with the rest of the Aggie Square team.

Marx’s appointment will run initially from Jan. 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.  He will continue as chair of the English department until June 30, 2020.
