My passion for this Big Idea

Water is the lifeblood of our planet, and rivers are the arteries that connect the world. People should realize what researchers already know – that UC Davis is a world leader in water science, just as it is for agriculture and veterinary medicine. Management of California's water resources presents unique challenges, and UC Davis has been central in finding solutions to those challenges.

In education, research, and public engagement, we are positioned to promote sustainable water management in what is increasingly a water-limited world.

The World Water Initiative Big Idea is designed to bring California water solutions and UC Davis water expertise to a global stage. In education, research, and public engagement, we are positioned to promote sustainable water management in what is increasingly a water-limited world. California must also look outward, learning from our partners in other countries who deal with similar water problems.

Through droughts and floods, California leaders have looked to UC Davis for the science and expertise to adapt to these challenges. The World Water Initiative would use this experience to affect change at a global scale.
