Smart Farm Big Idea
My passion for this Big Idea
“My passion is to create solutions to improve people’s lives and address the grand challenges of our time.
“My passion is...to create engineering solutions –– like smart machines and robots –– to help address the planet’s need for a plentiful, nutritious and flavorful food supply.”
I became a professor in both the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the College of Engineering in order to create engineering solutions –– like smart machines and robots –– to help address the planet’s need for a plentiful, nutritious and flavorful food supply that can be produced in harmony with nature in a way that is economically and socially sustainable.
Smart Farm is my vision for the future of farming. I enjoy working to create exciting new engineering approaches to farming practices, as well as teaching UC Davis students to become the next generation of technological leaders who will advance the leading edge of engineering knowledge to agriculture.”
