Center for Violence Prevention Research Big Idea
My passion for this Big Idea
“Early in my career, as a doctor in an emergency department here and a refugee camp in Southeast Asia, I saw a recurring theme – acts of violence stripping loved ones from their families and friends. Finally, I had enough and decided I needed to do something. Ever since, I have devoted my career to studying and preventing violence.
“By using research and presenting our findings to policymakers, we can take an evidence-based, interdisciplinary approach and drive public policy to make our world safer.”
We must stop the cycle of violence in our society, and UC Davis – located next to California’s state capital – is the place to do it. In California, we have access to a unique data environment and a public sense of urgency, which creates an unparalleled opportunity to study and prevent violence in all its forms.
Together, we can save lives. By using research and presenting our findings to policymakers, we can take an evidence-based, interdisciplinary approach and drive public policy to make our world safer.”
